Buffalo Community Orchestra kicks off their 30th anniversary season by “rewinding.” Join us as BCO looks back at the last 30 years to create a program filled with pieces holding sentimental and historical significance, as well as pieces that were member and audience favorites over the years!

Fun Facts:

Carnival of the Animals was performed during BCO’s inaugural season.

Carnival of the animals consists of 14 movements, each representing an animal, a group of animals, or a type of person!

Nimrod is taken from Enigma Variations, a series of 14 short musical portraits by Edward Elgar, based on several of the composer’s friends and family. Nimord, the best known of the variations, was written to portray a warm conversation between his good friend August Jaeger. In this case, the title is a play on words. Nimord, in the bible, was a great hunter, and the German word meaning “hunter” is Jaeger.

Smetana, composer of The Moldau, suffered sudden hearing loss and severe tinnitus at age 50. It is believed that Smetana was never able to hear this beautiful piece, one that became one of his most popular works.

Premiered in 1994 in Mexico City, Danzon No. 2 by Arturo Marquez is one of nine danzónes that were inspired by the golden age of danzón in the 1940s, when it was very popular in Mexican ballrooms and dance halls.
